five-axis laser machining, laser cutting, laser slitting, laser kiss cutting,
laser perforating, laser soldering, laser brazing, laser heat-treating, laser cladding,
laser surface treatment, laser annealing, laser web processing, laser drilling,
laser welding, laser wire-feed welding, laser scribing, laser marking and
laser engraving.
Laser specifications
CO2 lasers: 8
Nd:YAG lasers: 3
Power: 30 to 5,000 watts
Wave types: Continuous wave and pulsed
Capacity: Up to 10,000 pounds
Positional accuracy: As accurate as ±0.0005 inches, depending on application
Laser cutting
High-speed processing with up to six heads. Processing of round or square tubing from 0.020 inches to 24 inches in diameter and 20 feet in length.
Laser drilling
Holes drilled as small as ±0.004 inches in diameter.
Laser five-axis machining
Processing of difficult-to-machine three-dimensional parts. Work envelopes up to 120 x 60 inches and 96 x 72 inches. Ability to cut material up to 0.75 inches thick. Trimming of complex shapes, drilling of angled holes and cutting of intricately shapes windows.
Laser heat-treating
Selective hardening of wear surfaces in highly localized areas, resulting in virtually no heat distortion. Ability to handle up to 10,000 pounds, including large rolls, 132 x 18 inches in diameter. Ability to focus beam between 0.75 inches and 1 inches wide to customize the process.
Case depths: 0.080 inches.
Hardness: Up to Rc64 in medium carbon steels, such as 4140.
Laser welding
LAI helps evaluate the product concept and determine the best processing approach. High-yield strength laser welds with no heat distortion and no filler materials needed on most applications. Engineering assistance available for weld joint design. Able to weld dissimilar materials. Precision welding of parts ranging from tiny medical parts to heavy-equipment components. Facilities include 6-foot diameter rotary table and automatic wire-feed systems.
10-10 cc/s
Spot size: As small as 0.004 inches in diameter
Waterjet capabilities
Processing of all materials without heat-affected zone or re-cast layers. Large gantries, multiple head processing and shuttle tables. Nesting software maximizes material usage.
Advanced waterjet capabilities: Five-axis waterjet processing. High-Definition
Abrasive Waterjet MachiningTM, including precision cutting and drilling, small-hole drillling, screen production, surface modification and preparation, thin-kerf cutting, and high-pressure coating removal and cleaning.
Multiple-head machines and 5-axis robotic processing.
Waterjet specifications:
Waterjet workstations: 7
Waterjet intensifiers: 4
Waterjet rotary tables: 4
Capacity: Up to 10,000 pounds
Table sizes: Work areas as large as 15 x 15 x 5 feet
Maximum thickness: Virtually unlimited. LAI's waterjets have cut titanium as thick as 15 inches.
Surface finishes: 125 to 500 RMS depending on speed
Positional tolerances: As accurate as ±0.002 inches, depending on application
Hole drilling: Holes as small as 0.020 inches in diameter
Materials processed: Waterjets can process virtually any material. LAI
maintains an extensive database of parameters for materials including metals, composites,
plastics and other materials.
Machining and Tooling Capabilities
LAI East provides in-house design and manufacturing of tooling and fixtures to customer's requirements. Sub-contractors are
available for work beyond our capacity. Our CNC machining center serve our customers as cost-effective
processing tools for short-run and long-running productions both on metals and composites. LAI's CNC-based
industrial laser and waterjet job shop facility can also machine advanced composites
and softer materials like rubber and styrofoam.
